...to park on, or very close to, a speed hump?

The city just installed one directly in front of my house, right where I prefer to park. And it’s about time, too. There was talk a few years ago of blocking many entrances and exits to my neighborhood and that would have been a real pain. Right now we have too many people using my street as a shortcut, and driving things that should not be here, like 18-wheelers, at speed through this relatively quiet area. This change  really has improved the quality of life.

Can I back up to it? Can I park on top of it? Traffic and parking enforcement is pretty lax here, for better or for worse, and the fines aren’t bad, but I’d like to avoid being ticketed if possible...

I’ve parked on them and people park on them near me all the time, up to to your  municipality though

I have no idea, but I’d assume that unless it is signed it is fine. It’s not like you would be obstructing anything...

Most places I see with speed bumps also have a lot of street parked cars. And a lot of cars parked on those speed bumps- certainly it’s legal within Chicago city limits.

Check for any weird local law but I bet it’s fine- assuming the bump isn’t also marking a crosswalk.

N ot sure about the legal implications but most folks in our neighborhood always park on them to keep folks from driving around them.

These go all the way to the curb so there's no way to drive around them.

I don't see why that would be a problem.

Buy a Jeep and use it to pose dramatically.

I can’t think of a reason why it would be illegal. As long as you’re not blocking a driveway, or within x feet of a fire hydrant, or within y feet of a stop sign ...

This talk of speed bumps made me think of this:
